Shaft Caps.

The front and rear surfaces of the fire-rated shaft access door are manufactured from galvanized or cold-rolled steel sheet. The door leaf is 58 mm thick and contains gypsum boards, rock wool insulation and omega-shaped steel reinforcement profiles between its outer panels. The half-frame is manufactured from 1.50 mm thick cold-rolled steel sheet, and the access door is secured with a triangular utility lock. Fire-resistant electrostatic powder coating is applied to the shaft access door in the preferred RAL colour.

A shaft access door provides a secure and visually discreet solution for concealing and protecting electrical and mechanical building services. During a fire, unprotected service shafts can create a chimney effect, allowing flames, heat and smoke to spread rapidly to upper floors. A fire-rated shaft access door helps prevent a fire originating within an occupied area from reaching the building services and restricts a fire originating inside the service shaft from spreading into occupied areas. The fixed outer frame is manufactured from aluminium, while the movable inner frame is made from galvanized steel selected for its resistance to bending and buckling.

In addition to providing convenient access to concealed building services, the 90-minute fire-rated shaft access door helps limit the spread of fire for up to 90 minutes and supports safer evacuation to protected areas. As smoke and heat are two of the primary hazards during a fire, the shaft access door is designed to help restrict their passage between service shafts and occupied spaces.
